According to staff reports
The downtown Beaufort Tennis Center at 1105 Bladen Street off Boundary Street will see a $630,800 renovation begin over the next two weeks and be completed in September.
“Tennis has always been very popular in Beaufort,” said county deputy administrator of the Development and Recreation Division, Chuck Atkinson, in a statement. “This project will serve tennis fans for the next 20 years.”
The contract has been awarded to Talbot Tennis and will include the demolition of the existing courts and the installation of all new courts, nets/equipment, fencing/gates and ADA compliant sidewalks. The current lighting of the pitch will be modernized. Rain gardens and runoff controls will be added to address stormwater issues that have plagued the courts in recent years.
The current parking lot will be paved. There will be no additional parking due to SCDOT limitations.
Beaufort County has approximately 17 public tennis courts spread across the county at various parks and facilities.
The downtown facility has seven courts and served as the venue for the annual Beaufort Water Festival tennis tournament until recently.
The Beaufort County Parks and Recreation Department is currently developing a master plan which includes developing future designs for the tennis and pickleball courts. To provide feedback, go to https://playbeaufortcounty.com/.
