It’s not their own municipal pool, but Hoboken residents now have access to the indoor pool at Stevens Institute of Technology, city officials and Stevens’ president announced Friday.
There is a catch, however. Stevens’ pool and four tennis courts are only open to fully vaccinated and boosted Hoboken residents over the age of 5, Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla and the president of the Stevens Institute of Technology said. Nariman Farvardin.
The tennis courts will be open from June 6 to August 28 and the indoor swimming pool all year round.
Hoboken residents will have free access to the tennis courts located at the north end of campus between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m., seven days a week. Hoboken residents will have access to the Schaefer Athletic Center pool for a fee.
Summer pool hours are weekdays 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturdays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. until August 31. Access to the tennis courts and swimming pool will be provided subject to proof of residence and confirmation of vaccination.
“Providing additional access to the tennis court and swimming pool, through our partnership with Stevens, will provide even more recreational opportunities for Hoboken residents this summer,” Bhalla said. “On behalf of all Hoboken tennis players and swimmers, thank you to Chairman Farvardin and his team for helping to make this possible once again this year.”
The city has long been without a public swimming pool. A proposed municipal complex in uptown could include a swimming pool, and the Hoboken School District has proposed a new school complex that could also include a swimming pool.
Hoboken residents wishing to register to use the tennis courts and pool must first register at http://www.hobokennj.gov/stevenstennis and provide contact information, government ID or utility bill showing an address in Hoboken and proof. full vaccination and at least one booster dose.
“We are proud of our partnership with Mayor Bhalla and the City of Hoboken, and we are happy to make these facilities available to our neighbours,” said Farvardin.
Stevens requires that all students on campus, as well as full-time and part-time employees, be fully immunized and receive at least one booster dose. The form will then be processed by the city with a required city approval email before beginning the Stevens registration process.
Residents must then register with Stevens at https://stevens.dserec.com/online/membership. An email will be sent when the Stevens ID is available for collection at Stevens Card Services.
After receiving the approval email, the ID card can be picked up at Stevens Card Services at the Howe Center, room 120, Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. See a campus map at https://www.stevens.edu/visit.
Residents can also purchase year-round pool access through daily, weekly or monthly memberships by following the same registration process. Pool fees are $20 for one day, $35 for two weeks, or $55 per month. Seniors receive a reduced rate of $15 per day, $25 for two weeks or $35 per month.
Please note that no parking is available on campus for people using the tennis courts or swimming pool.
All rules displayed at the tennis court and at the swimming pool must be respected. A one-hour delay is in effect when the tennis courts are full. Guests may not open the court or pool gate or let other people in. All tennis players and swimmers must enter the facility alone. Anyone who breaks these rules will lose their privileges.
