Pickleball, prominent tennis courts in Hudson in 2022

HUDSON – A project to build pickleball and tennis courts in a city park took a step forward this week.

City Council on Tuesday approved an $ 87,624 contract with the Environmental Design Group to design 12 pickleball courts and five tennis courts to be installed at Barlow Farm Park, 1965 Barlow Road.

There is currently no pickleball field in Hudson, according to city spokesperson Jody Roberts. The closest are in Stow and Twinsburg.

Roberts added that there are no city-owned tennis courts in Hudson.

Many residents have asked the city council and the park board to build pickleball courts due to the sport’s growing popularity.

As part of a park master plan that it presented to council in late January, the park council recommended the construction of the courts based on the requests they received from residents.

Trent Wash, the city’s deputy director of public works, said design for the project is expected to take place within the next few months.

The city’s project schedule says the final design is expected to be ready for tender on December 13. Wash noted that the estimated construction costs will only be available after these designs are completed.

Then Wash said, “we’ll take [the design] back to council and park board for review and if we were told to go ahead then it would be tendered for construction. “

The municipal calendar indicates that council will review the design on January 11, 2022, with a view to approving the search for bids for a construction contract on January 18.

The schedule shows a plan to award a construction contract in April 2022.

If the council awards the contract based on the prepared schedule, Wash said, “depending on the weather, we hope for a spring start and [have the project] finished at the end of summer. “

He stressed that the timetable is “very tentative”.
