Penzance tennis courts have now reopened after a summer overhaul.
The Alexandra tennis court facilities officially reopened to the public on Monday, October 18 with a short official ceremony that took place the next day.
The work as well as the transformation of Alexandra Playpark was part of phase two of the devolution of Cornwall Council, handing over the assets of Penzance to City Council.
The playground and tennis courts have been well used by residents and visitors to Penzance, Cornwall, but in need of serious care.
In June, the city council appointed DA Giles to carry out the work to improve the park.
The old recreational facilities have been renewed and repaired, new sidewalk coverings have been fitted out while the guardrails have been regalvanized, treated and repainted.
Other work done included removing weeds to make way for new plantings that will be favorable to pollinators, while the beds that line the front wall of the park have also been cleaned and replanted with hardy plants that can withstand the winds and salt air from the seafront.
Now, new fences have been installed around the tennis courts and a new court surface has been laid.
A city council spokesperson said: “A lot has changed in the park for the better.”
