Harper Stantz Memorial Tennis Courts Take Shape at Leisure Park

Paving crews have been busy as a project to build a tennis court moves forward at the West Side Recreation Park in Binghamton.

The old park courts were retired several weeks ago. Excavation work, including the installation of new water pipes, is underway.

Company workers delivered asphalt to the site and began paving work last week.

Construction of the tennis complex is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.

The facility is to be named Harper M. Stantz Memorial Courts at Recreation Park. The 16-year-old Binghamton High School student had been playing tennis with a friend in the park just before being hit by a vehicle as she was walking home. She died of her injuries.
