ANN ARBOR – Ann Arbor Public Schools announced that activities involving direct contact are now prohibited on school grounds, playgrounds and athletic fields.
The district issued the following statement clarifying permitted activities:
Be aware that the use of AAPS school grounds, sports fields and playgrounds is limited to activities that do not involve direct contact with others, such as walking, hiking, running and cycling.
While you are engaged in any of these activities, please stay at least six feet away from other people who do not live with you in your household. The school board and / or the superintendent reserve the right to close the above facilities if conditions warrant.
AAPS officials said the decision aligned with the city of Ann Arbor’s restrictions on the use of city parks and natural areas.
Due to the increase in COVID-19 cases locally, those entering schoolyards do so at their own risk.
Those who are ill are asked not to visit the AAPS school grounds until their condition improves. Gatherings of people who do not live in the same household are prohibited.
In order to slow the spread of COVID-19, the following school facilities have been closed:
Play areas / play structures
Playgrounds (basketball and tennis)
