A new gym, climbing wall and tennis courts could be coming to Bath. They would be located at Odd Down Sports Ground and now is your chance to have a say in the plans before they are passed.
The council has set aside £700,000 to improve the sports ground and wants to know what residents would like to see there. So far, they have suggested opening a new fitness studio and gym to encourage people to go there during the day.
At the moment, the site is mainly used in the evenings and on weekends. If there was a new fitness studio, it could also be used for community events, the council explained.

They also proposed to build a new reception area and another entrance for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as more parking spaces and additional parking. The full list of proposed new facilities is as follows:
- A gym
- A fitness studio/community space
- A closed and sheltered outdoor gym
- A new reception area at the front of the building
- More energy-efficient lighting for existing floodlights
- Parking improvements to stop parking on residential streets during peak hours or events
- A standard Changing Places accessible toilet, with changing trolley, height-adjustable hoist and a peninsular toilet suitable for wheelchair users
- A climbing facility
- Padel courts
- A peripheral walking/running path
- Outdoor natural playgrounds
The project is a collaboration between Bath and North East Somerset Council and its leisure partner Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL). Odd Down Sports Ground is one of five venues managed by GLL in BANES and currently includes a 1.5km cycle track, 3G pitch, grass pitches, cricket pitch and car park.

The site also includes a building with changing rooms, toilets, a café area and a multipurpose community room. The layout will be funded by GLL with the tennis courts and climbing options funded by GLL’s partners. The council will provide £600,000 in capital funding for the project and £100,000 from allocations from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).
Councilor Dine Romero, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, and Communities, said: “These proposed improvements will provide greater accessibility to better sports facilities for residents of Odd Down, helping to improve health. and the well-being of people. what you would like to see on offer, so please have your say during our consultation. We also run walk-in sessions so you can come and talk to us about the plans.
“The sports ground is already busy in the evenings and weekends but we would like to see more people enjoying the leisure facilities during the day. We know parking can be an issue so we will carry out a traffic assessment and a travel plan before finalizing the proposals.
Welcome sessions at Odd Down Sports Ground will take place on Friday, June 17 from 3-8 p.m. and Saturday, June 18 from 1:30-4 p.m. You can also respond to the consultation here.
