Chicago police are investigating after two men were shot dead at a tennis court on the city’s northwest side on Monday afternoon.
Authorities say two men were standing near the street in the 1300 block of East Luis Munoz Marin Drive around 3:04 p.m. when they were approached by two men who drew guns and began shooting at them .
A 34-year-old man was shot in the head and chest, and a 35-year-old man was shot in the chest, police said.
Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
One of the suspects was taken into custody and two weapons were recovered from the scene, police said.
The Cook County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Devel Jones, 34, and Antwon Gee, 35, were the victims shot in Humboldt Park, a short walk from where children played and families gathered to enjoy the nice weather.
Sashay Woods spoke lovingly of his older brother Jones, saying he was a good man who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
“My brother, he is a hard working man, a loving brother and the best uncle,” she said. “People don’t think this is their last day…he doesn’t deserve to be lying here.”
Woods says Jones and Gee were best friends and spent a quality day off together.
“He was my protector, and I don’t have him anymore,” she said.
