The fountain was built by the Rev. J.S. Newman in memory of his late wife Annie. Although the exact date of its construction
is not known, it is believed to be between June 1883 and February 1884. An inscription, above the drinking trough reads "A righteous Man Regardeth the Life of His Beast, But the Tender Mercies of the
Wicked are Cruel." The fountain features a red granite horse trough and also a white marble dog bowl at its base. The fountain is Grade II Listed and provides a good photo opportunity |
