www.alabare.co.uk/pop-h-06.htm A
supported housing scheme for men recovering from chemical dependency who have completed a rehabilitation programme. Residents are supported in daily living skills, finding new, constructive leisure activities and into
education and work. Occupying a lovely Victorian house in the coastal Somerset town of Clevedon, Andrew House offers what one resident has described as 'a vital breathing space after the madness of addiction'. £500 is going to the Clevedon Community Association. The CCA is housed in a listed building and set in the grounds of Sunhill Park, Princes Road, is the only self funded Community Centre in North Somerset and is at the
heart of the community providing a wide variety of services to the town and surrounding district populace. The Charity is run by an Executive Committee of volunteers with a small number of paid staff carrying out the
day to day responsibilities. Over seventy
local clubs, societies and amateur dramatic groups with membership of around two thousand use the centre and adjoining Princes Hall on a regular basis and the CCA is currently applying to North Somerset District Council for registration to hold weddings on the premises. There is an excellent restaurant serving home cooked lunches on a daily basis. Many local businesses and government organizations utilise the facilities available to run courses for their staff and the public.
£300 has been donated to the Lions Ladies.
The Lions Ladies [not Lady Lions] are a self contained group of Lion's wives/partners and more recently friends, who have always supported the Club in its activities but do not wish to join the Club formally. The
group actually dates back to when the Lions Club consisted of men only and the wives etc were not allowed to join!!!!! A few of them did however when the rules were relaxed a few years ago. Lions Ladies also raise money
in their own right for donation to causes of their choosing. Last year over £750 was raised and donated to local causes, including the Cottage Hospital where some years ago they created a talking book library. They also
donated money recently to the MS Centre at Nailsea. The £300 is in recognition of their support throughout the year and the ladies will choose a charity/cause in the next month or so to receive it. Alan Harker
